Bressonian Quote #6 - Notes from a Master Filmmaker

"No Actors
(No directing of actors.) No parts.
(No learning of parts.) No staging.
But the use of working models, taken from life.
BEING (models) instead of SEEMING (actors)."
- Robert Bresson

If it seems radical and stringent relative to traditional theatrical cinema - that's because it is. Bresson formulated his own methodology of direction and performance (removal of performance) to create uniquely potent realism that transcends the bounds of most direct cinema.
